Enhancing Specialized Care Facilities

Missouri Orthopaedic Institute
University of Missouri Health Care System
Columbia, MO

The University of Missouri Health Care (UMHC) is a health-care network run by the University of Missouri that includes five hospitals in Columbia as well as numerous clinics statewide. Part of UMHC’s overall strategic plan for growth was to increase service areas such as surgery and orthopedics.

In support of this plan and the UMHC’s mission to provide patients with world-class care in a convenient and comfortable environment, UMHC added a new, stand-alone Orthopaedic Institute adjacent to University Hospital. KAI provided construction management services for the project.

The new, 115,000 SF Orthopaedic Institute includes:

  • 18 inpatient beds
  • Short-stay patient beds
  • 6 outpatient operating rooms
  • Orthopedic clinics
  • Orthopedic laboratories and research space
  • MRI room and three radiology rooms
  • Physical/occupational therapy clinics
