A Next-Generation Care Space

The Mercy Center for Performance Medicine & Specialty Care
Mercy
St. Louis, MO

KAI Build and joint venture partner Alberici Constructors were selected as the general contractor for Mercy’s new innovative performance medicine and specialty care center and 1,000-space parking garage across from Mercy Hospital St. Louis at the corner of Ballas and Conway roads.

The Alberici/KAI construction team employed a robust suite of technology to enhance coordination and communication on site, which included weekly drone flights over the project, monthly video project updates, and an online project dashboard. The team used StructionSite 360 to ensure all stakeholders were kept up-to-date on the project through a secure, web-based portal providing virtual 360 video and images and interactive PDFs linked to real-time video walkthroughs and side-by-side comparisons of existing conditions and new work.

The one-of-a-kind facility offers specialties such as bariatrics, neurosurgery, orthopedics and sports medicine, reconstructive surgery and urology making the new 272,000-square-foot, five-level center one of the largest outpatient surgery centers in the country. Additional services include imaging, a drive-through pharmacy and a café. Co-worker and lounge areas flex to provide spaces for collaboration and, as needed, separation. Waiting rooms were designed to provide ample space for social distancing if necessary, even incorporating the outdoors when possible.

The Impact

A State-of-the-Art Facility as Soon as You Arrive

The Mercy Center for Performance Medicine & Specialty Care offers the latest in healthcare technology even providing a high-tech parking garage experience. The advanced garage removes the added stress that often comes with entering a healthcare facility by guiding visitors to the closest available parking spaces. The garage is equipped with an innovative, camera-based system and the latest sensor technology with bright green and red lights that direct patients to open spaces in the garage more quickly, saving time and frustration. Clear electronic signage in the garage will highlight how many spaces are open on each level in real time. Once someone chooses a floor, directional signs provide guidance and color-coded indicators display red for occupied, green for open and blue for handicapped, which will further ease the process and remove what can feel like endless circling to find a spot.
