Coordinating a safe exhibit and experience

KAI has finished several construction projects at the Saint Louis Zoo ranging in size and scope, from enhancements to various animal habitats to office renovations to the new Candy Crossing Retail Shop. This project including repairing the mesh netting around the Fragile Forest Outdoor Exhibit.

Fragile Forest is a lushly landscaped outdoor summer habitat for orangutans, chimpanzees and gorillas. The exhibit’s perimeter netting was in need of repair, and KAI was hired as general contractor to rebuild the supports and netting. This project involved detailed coordination to ensure that work did not interfere with tourists or staff and to relocate animals when working on their habitat. Communication with the keepers of each habitat, along with the Zoo’s project managers, was a crucial part of the project’s success.
