Making Higher Education Alternatively Accessible
Dallas College commissioned KAI for full design services for a new Satellite Education Center located in the Pleasant Grove area of East Dallas. This Satellite Center also includes, in a separate secure area, the East Dallas Chamber of Commerce as well as the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The Center offers workforce training programs, continuing education classes as well as GED training.
The vision for the new Eastfield College was for it to be more than just an educational building. The facility is located in the center of the Pleasant Grove area and is the focal point of the revitalization of the community.
KAI presented three schemes in one- and two-level options. All included an open lobby area with a double volume space leading to the administration area, library, classrooms, computer rooms, student common areas, bookstore, and a Community Area adjacent to a plaza. Additional elements to this project included maintenance facilities, conference rooms, testing rooms, and 10 smart technology classrooms.
