Ameren Missouri selected KAI Build and joint venture partner PARIC Corporation to provide General Contracting services for the new North Metro Operating Center, located at 4440 Union Blvd. It replaces and expands the company’s outdated Geraldine Operating Center, which stood adjacent to the new facility and served the community for more than 60 years.

The new 57,000-square-foot facility was built to accommodate up to 70 Ameren employees and includes a new office building, warehouse, and storage facility. It provides service for more than 135,000 customers in North St. Louis and surrounding communities. It is one of many investments Ameren Missouri is making as part of its Smart Energy Plan, a multi-year effort to strengthen the grid and bring more resilient energy to Missouri.

The 20,000-square-foot office building features an open office space, collaboration spaces, conference rooms, offices, a break room, wellness room and mother’s room.

A new 26,000-square-foot open truck shelter can now hold up to 42 service trucks. An additional 6,400-square-foot storage building was added for trailers, poles, and transformers. New entrances, parking, fencing, gates, landscaping, and concrete were also added to upgrade the surrounding site.

The Impact

Reinvesting in North St. Louis

Reversing decades of disinvestment, construction of the North Metro Operating Center provided hundreds of jobs for area workers, while also utilizing the company’s network of diverse suppliers. Ameren Missouri worked with 28 diverse suppliers on the project and spent 38% of project funds with these vendors. Allowing the facility to remain in North St. Louis keeps the crews close to the neighborhoods they are serving so they can respond safely and quickly to issues as they work to provide reliable energy for more than 135,000 customers.
