Creating a comfortable and safe transit waiting area

Metro Transit recognized the need to expand its services in north St. Louis County to address the fastest-growing public transit market in Missouri. To accommodate this need, Metro purchased an abandoned car dealership for conversion into a 25,300 SF bus transfer center, and an adjacent lot for the construction of a new 160,000 SF maintenance facility.

Open in March 2016, the $5 million center provides an indoor temperature-controlled waiting space with concessions, public restrooms, staff offices, Call-A-Ride van dispatch, public meeting room as well as a free park-ride 100-space lot. Riders can wait outside under large canopies with around-the-clock security. Metro anticipates that as many as 8,000 commuters a day will use the center.

The maintenance facility will hold 70 buses up to 60 feet long, 25 vans, 10 bus repair bays, a separate farebox maintenance and storage facility, wash rack and pump house, fueling station, and an on-site vehicle dispatch center.
