Making Transportation Convenient and Accessible
The Orange Line Terminus Station at DFW International Airport, adjacent to Terminal A, is a prime example of creating a dynamic station reflective of its environment, including Arts-in-Transit. KAI’s design of a tubular structure with tensile fabric canopies evokes soaring wings and catches and diffuses light, both day and night.
The art-grade Orange Line Terminus Station sits between the International Parkway and the northbound service road at the departure level of Terminal A, giving passengers a scenic walkway directly from the light rail station to the terminal’s security point, or to the Skylink (automated people mover system), if Terminal A is not their departure point.
As an entry point to the DART system, this combination of the DFW’s Terminal D aesthetic and DART’s gull wings became known as “the saddle,” a homage to Texas’ original transportation history. This is a perfect example of creating a new station with homage to DART standards and incorporating platform amenities for both DART and DFW.

The Impact
Connecting the Dallas/Fort Worth Area to the World
This light rail service allows global travelers to conveniently access the airport and the City. Additionally, this project helps to attract more activity to the city of Dallas, including everything from corporations to conferences and other business entities in need of convenient public transportation to their destinations. This project also provides the local community with a cost-effective way to commute to and from work every day.
